Water Conservation and Other Helpful Suggestions
Date: May 15, 2014
Some helpful hints to consider as we enter the summer months. Because California is experiencing a drought, it is important to take some steps to make sure we are not wasting water.
If you notice the common area landscape sprinklers are watering the sidewalks please let me know as we are not trying to make the concrete grow.
Inside the home, a simple test you can do is to put a few drops of food color in your toilet tank, wait 5 - 10 minutes and then check to see if the water in the toilet bowl is similar to the food coloring you added? If it is, you have a slow leak and should contact a plumber to make the necessary repairs as wasting water is expensive.
You should also check your refrigerator lines, dish washer lines, sink lines and clothes washer lines to make sure they are not leaking as this could cause issues with mold growth. Also, slowly try to turn the shut off valves located near these areas. If they are not used they become frozen or stuck and you want to make sure they work when you need them.
Not water related, please make sure to change the batteries in your smoke alarms annually to prevent being awakened in the middle of the night with the annoying chirping noise.
Finally, because soaring temperatures usually result in power outages due to rolling black-outs please make sure you have some water and other necessary supplies to get by in the event of a power failure. It’s never too late to be prepared whether a power failure, earthquake or other disaster.
If you have any other suggestions, please let us know and we will add to the list so other owners can benefit for the suggestions.
